Be Careful Of The Story You Tell Yourself
Mind Mastery Minutes - V1.13

If you don't change your beliefs, your life will be like this forever. Is that good news?
BE CAREFUL OF THE STORY YOU TELL YOURSELF.
Why?
Because the beliefs and narratives you hold about yourself could be holding you back…
Beliefs not only change your reality, they create it.
BELIEF = “An acceptance that something is true.”

We all have hundreds of beliefs about ourselves.
These beliefs are mainly formed in childhood, often stemming from highly pleasurable or painful experiences.
These beliefs are stored in our long term memory via our subconscious mind.
This is where our conception of self (who we think we are) is stored.
The Mind is made up of 2 levels:
The Conscious Mind - approx. 10% of the mind
The Unconscious Mind - approx. 90% of the mind
Conscious
| Subconscious
|
The subconscious mind is both extremely powerful and somewhat unknown.
But what we do know:
Whatever you feed your subconscious mind, comes back out.

The more you say / think something.
The more you remember it / believe it is true.
The more likely your subconscious is to store that information.
Therefore…
Any belief stored in the subconscious will reappear in your conscious mind later down the line.
Because you believe it in your mind…
It must be true!
Statement → Belief → Attitude → Identity
If you continually make statements about yourself, they eventually become part of your identity.
This is what I mean by be careful of the story you tell yourself.
Reinforced beliefs don’t just become real, they become you.
For years I held limiting beliefs about myself.

“I’m not a morning person.”
“I’m not organised.”
“I’m not good at X.”
“I’m depressed.”
These are all “I” statements.
Which are highly problematic.
These kind of statements are extremely powerful because when we attach our these things to our identity, we are stigmatising ourselves.
Since we are saying “I” (i.e. our identity) we conform to that label.
Without even realising it.
If you tell yourself you are depressed, or that you are not worthy of love, or that you’ve have no talent or ability.
You will act in accordance to that belief.
The story you tell yourself becomes your identity.
As a result, your behaviour conspires to align with your identity.
On the flip side.
If you tell yourself positive things and hold positive beliefs.
The same thing will happen.
If you spent 2 minutes in the morning telling yourself you’re going to have a good day, you will.
Try it :)
What limiting beliefs do you have?
“I’m not good at X”.
“I find it hard to Y”.
“I’ve always been Z”.
Think about it.
What do you find yourself saying about yourself?
Don’t create a ceiling for your potential because of your self-limiting beliefs.
Change the narrative.
How to overcome limiting beliefs:
Identify your limiting beliefs.
Challenge them. Ask, “why?”, “Is this helping or hindering me?”.
Replace with more positive beliefs.
